FASHION PUT ON HOLD AS PLAYERS STRUGGLE AGAINST RAIN AND COLD AND AT WOMEN’S BRISTISH OPEN
ST. ANDREW’S, SCOTLAND (August 5, 2007) — As eventual winner Lorena Ochoa turned backed into the wind and toward the clubhouse in today’s final round of the Women’s British Open, she and every other player on the Old Course were wearing rain and wind suits—a few had even donned ear muffs— as the temperature dropped to 57 degrees and bands of light rain began to move across the course.
“It doesn’t seem fair under these conditions to critique what everyone is wearing because your clothing needs to be practical more than anything else,” said women’s golf clothing designer Tracey Lynn Blake. Blake picks the best- and worst-dressed players playing in the final rounds of major championships of women’s golf.
“I’ve got nothing but compliments today for those who played in conditions I know many players would have preferred not to have teed off in,” said Blake.
Several players, however, still managed to look good by wearing rain and wind gear with contrasting tops and bottoms, said Blake, president and founder of Tracey Lynn Golf, www.traceylynngolf.com, a fashion-forward women’s golf clothing line for athletically-built women.
Annika Sorenstam wore a black rain suit top with contrasting grey pants, Linda Wessberg white pants with a red top, Maria Hjorth a light green sleeveless vest with her black pants, and Reilly Rankin a yellow top with contrasting interior black collar trim matching her black wind pants. J. Y. Lee wore and all-white rain suit with half-sleeves and a bit of pink trim. And of course, Paula Creamer wore a pink top with black wind pants and a coordinating pink belt, along with her signature pink panther stenciled on her face celebrating her 21st birthday in the final round.
“These outfits all had one thing in common, simplicity, and I tell all of my customers that’s the key to looking great,” said Blake. “These players kept it together, fashion-wise, under extreme conditions.”,
Blake’s golf clothing for women, available exclusively online, focuses on simplicity. It includes black, red and white skorts, solid red, black sand white mock turtlenecks. All can be matched with black mesh, her best-selling leopard and black-grey print shirts and skorts. Matching jackets and pants also are available for cooler weather conditions.
All are made of performance enhancing stretch materials that are self-wicking and cooling in the heat and warming in cooler temperatures.
