HOT PINK SHIRT AND BROWN SKORT OUTFIT WORN BY SORENSTAM WINS FASHION NOD AT 2008 KRAFT NABISCO
DENVER—April 6, 2008—Lorena Ochoa won the Kraft Nabisco Championship today, but runner-up Annika Sorenstam topped her for Sunday’s Best®, a distinction given to the best-dressed player in the final round of each major LPGA tournament by one of the country’s leading golf fashion designers.
Sorenstam wore what is expected to be one of the 2008 season’s hottest colors – hot pink. She combined a shirt in that color with a brown skort and white belt.
“Her fitted Cutter & Buck short-sleeved placket golf shirt with horizontal pinstripe looked great with a softer cut around the body and at the shoulder, providing a flattering, feminine look for one of the tour’s physically strongest players, ” said ladies golf clothing designer Tracey Lynn Blake, adding that “this summer you will see that same hot pink and other vibrant colors like Annika’s on the tee.”
“Watch for a lot of electric blue, and a consistent but lesser amount of bright, nearly lime green and yellow, as well,” Blake said.
The same softer cut shirt on several players featured capped sleeves. Five- or six-button collars rather than the traditional three-button collars were also common in the groups finishing ahead of third-round leader Ochoa, who never faltered and won handily for the first time at Mission Hills in Rancho Mirage, California. Some player’s shirts with the deeper necklines used tabs instead of buttons, including Ochoa’s, giving them a cleaner look.
Maria Hjorth and Christy Kerr both wore bright or electric blue bottoms in the final round with white tops. Suzann Pettersen went the opposite way, wearing an electric blue collared shirt with white capri.
“Striking blues were a dominant color at Fall Fashion Week, ” said Blake. Her women’s golf shirts, golf shorts, Capri pants and golf skorts feature it this year— with an accenting silver-black-and blue leopard.
Ochoa wore a bright green short with a dark blue La Coste shirt.
“Not a winning combination but it might have worked the other way around, ” said Blake. “ I’m sure Annika would have worn the less attractive outfit in exchange for first place.”
