Bandon Dunes, Oregon / Dec 14, 2007

For my 40th birthday, my husband took me to Bandon Dunes, Oregon www.bandondunesgolf.com. Our only set back was that we went during the “hurricane” of December 2007. It was the first time they had ever closed the courses due to wind, which reached nearly 100 mph. They were afraid someone would get wacked in the head with a branch going about 90 mph (makes sense to me). The storm was so bad that they declared a national emergency farther north in Oregon, but don’t let that scare you away.

In the last two weeks, I’ve been insulted by men who think just because I’m a woman, I don’t know anything about golf or don’t even play at all. The most recent occurrence happened when I was checking in to play at Bandon Dunes (Oregon).

Club Fitting RULES! / Nov 1, 2007

I just shot my best score ever, 86, a few days ago and the reason wasn’t, as I’d like to claim, that I was wearing my women’s golf clothing (although I really think it helps!). There’s no doubt it was that I had my clubs custom fit the week before by a nationally-recognized fitter.

In Las Vegas, I played at the TPC at Summerlin with my husband, where we joined about 9 months ago. It was 103 degrees on Wednesday and the heat put the self-wicking technology in my fabrics through an incredible field test. I wore my red-and-white mesh shirt and red skort and was comfortable every swing of the way.

So we attended the Fall 2007 PGA Merchandise Show in Las Vegas this week. It was less than half the size of the Orlando show held in January each year but still a great representation of the market for women’s golf apparel. Several key ladies golf clothing makers sure to be in Orlando were absent — Nike and Tommy Bahama were prominent no-shows.

Well, I’m getting great reviews on my clothing. I do however, wonder if the length deters some women from buying. I know some women are very self conscious about showing their legs.

So my husband and I went on a road trip for our anniversary and drove around Colorado. We stayed for 2 days in Grand Junction, Colorado and played Redlands Mesa Golf Course, which is a Jim Engh design.
